Reids' daughter Diane has recently compiled a book of tested recipes that is available directly from her. The book is called:
 "Canada's Heritage Through Food and Wine"
and is a collection of ethnic and native dishes from the variety of cultures that make up this land of ours.


Canada is a country which respects and encourages the traditions of those who come to its shores. From coast to coast, pioneers who cleared the land to create sustenance out of hardship found strength, comfort and familiarity in the transplanted cooking of their homelands. Such are the recipes cherished and handed down from one generation to the next-featured in this cookbook - Canada's Heritage through Food and Wine.

The book contains over 90 recipes, from breads to main courses to desserts, published in a handy spiral binding for ease of use in your kitchen. They are laid out like this:

Cucumbers with Sour Cream - Hungary

"Growing up on the farm there were always tons of cucumbers - the Hungarian treat! This is a traditional, delicately flavoured salad."

   3  large cucumbers, peeled and thinly sliced
        salt
   1  large onion, sliced in rings
   1  cup sour cream
   1  tbsp vinegar
   3  tbsp sugar
       cracked pepper

Put cucumbers and onions in colander and sprinkle salt over them. Cover
with clean towel . Put a weight on them and let drain for at least an hour in
the refrigerator,

In medium bowl, mix sour cream, vinegar and sugar. Squeeze remaining
liquid from cucumbers. Add cucumbers to dressing. Season with cracked pepper.                                                                         Yield: 6 - 8 servings

     disappear so quickly"
