If you are checking out this site, you may be someone who is either considering having a log home built by a contractor, constructing a log building yourself or perhaps are just interested in how artisans go about planning and constructing this type of structure. The following will be of interest to you:BOOKDuring his building career, Reid Finlayson has taught the art of log construction to prospective home builders through weekend and evening courses at community colleges and schools. In 1980 he wrote a book that he called "The Art of Log Home Building". This was an undertaking and was done along with his building activity and was several years in preparation. The book was accepted by a major publisher and was subsequently listed in their spring catalogue. Unfortunately, at the last minute, they changed their format and Reids' book was removed from their schedule. Since then, due to other commitments, the book outline has sat in a closet in his home and this "hands on" step by step document has been unavailable to those interested in the subject. With the advent of computers, the Internet and electronic publishing, it is now feasible to offer this book directly to interested people in electronic form without going through publisher and bookstore. We have converted the manuscript to "Adobe Acrobat" form which makes it available to anyone with a computer. Adobe has made their Reader available to anyone at no charge and can be downloaded from their Internet site. As every page in Reid's book is illustrated with pictures and/or drawings it was a fairly time consuming job to make the conversion. However it is now available. The book has been revised to update some information but it will still remain as the knowledgeable, homespun and friendly guide to building your own log home. The book has been priced to be affordable to everyone VideoReid has also produced a full color and sound video at his building site in Penticton, British Columbia. The video. "Log Home Construction", documents the construction of a log home for an owner in the Okanagan Valley and shows the building stages, from raw logs to the completed home at the owners site. It also includes footage of other completed log homes built by Reid and his crew. The Video is now for sale and is a helpful addition to the book by further illustrating some of the unique building techniques used in constructing log structures. Reid Finlayson is not responsible for any injuries or damages incurred by individuals using the building methods described and/or illustrated in these books or videos How to Purchase Using a Credit Card or Paypal Account To Pay by Check, Cash or Money Order Click Here
